The "Bear" That Wrecked a Rolls-Royce Was a Costume

The story
Lake Arrowhead, California, January 2024. A claim says a bear climbed into a Rolls-Royce and clawed up the seats. There's even video. Then two more claims come in, for two Mercedes, same day, same place, same kind of bear. Officials put the total at $141,839. The insurers got suspicious and called the state. Investigators showed the videos to a wildlife biologist.
The biologist took one look. "Clearly a human in a bear suit. Detectives say they found a furry bear costume, with metal claws, at a home. Four people were charged with insurance fraud. In April 2026, three pleaded no contest and got weekend jail time. The fourth case is still open.
