Two Sisters Saw a Bird-Man Over a Church Tower
Cryptids are creatures people report but science has never confirmed. In each episode Poss Jonah tells where the legend comes from, what people say they saw, and what a sensible explanation might be, then lets you decide.
The story
On April 17th, 1976, two young sisters on holiday in Cornwall, England, said they saw a big feathered bird-man hovering over a church tower. Meet the Owlman of Mawnan, named for the little village where it was seen, over the tower of St. Mawnan's church. Now the girls were so scared, the story goes, that their dad cut the family vacation short.
And one of them reportedly drew it. But that July, two 14-year-old girls camping nearby said they saw "a big owl with pointed ears as big as a man," with glowing eyes and black pincer-like claws. More reports came in 1978, 1979, 1989 and 1995. But church towers are a favorite nesting spot for barn owls.
Another writer guessed a big eagle owl, and one stuck in the mud a historian suggested the whole thing was a hoax by the man who spread the story one Tony "Doc" Shiels, who may have had a reputation for stunts like this. What I want to know is where was Jeremy Clarkson during all this?
But you decide. I'm Poss Jonah.
